Quality Control

High-Quality Asphalt Production

For an asphalt pavement to be placed and compacted properly, the quality of the mix begins at the asphalt plant. Every production facility requires quality control to help ensure consistency and quality, and at Metro Materials, we take the quality control process very seriously.

GDOT-Approved Plants

We strive to produce high-quality asphalt that meets the required specifications for every truckload. By owning and operating our asphalt plants we can maintain strict quality control standards. All of our plants are approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and are on the State Qualified Products List (QPL 45). We produce asphalt using materials from GDOT-approved sources and the mix designs we use are from GDOT-approved design laboratories. Additionally, Metro Materials has GDOT-certified Quality Control (QC) Technicians and testing labs at each of our locations to test the outgoing asphalt that we produce in accordance with GDOT guidelines.

Trucks loaded with asphalt are checked for the proper temperature throughout the day. We randomly select truck loads to sample the asphalt at our onsite lab. The percentage of asphalt cement and gradation of the aggregate is compared to the mix design to ensure the mixture is within tolerance of the specifications. Our QC technicians also inspect the aggregate stockpiles and plant equipment routinely to help ensure quality. QC data is recorded and analyzed so that adjustments can be made if necessary to maintain consistency.

Metro Materials has been producing high-quality asphalt for our customers for more than 55 years. We hold ourselves to a standard of offering top quality and service to all customers, large or small, that purchase asphalt from our plants.
